Our daughter made this one last year (you can see her holding it in the product photo — that’s actually her!). She was 7 at the time, and it was the first craft where she did everything completely by herself: printing, cutting, folding, gluing. A tip from experience: let them cut at their own pace. Our daughter wanted to rush through the cutting and the first attempt was a bit wonky. We printed another copy (that’s the beauty of digital downloads — unlimited prints!), and the second one turned out perfect.

Every year, we’d need gifts for Mom (that’s me), Grandma, and at least one auntie. And both kids wanted to make something different. Why We Make Handprint Crafts (Not Just Coloring Pages)
I know there are hundreds of free Mother’s Day printables on Pinterest. I’ve downloaded plenty of them myself! Most are coloring pages or cut-and-glue cards, and they’re totally fine for a quick activity.
But here’s why I started making handprint and fingerprint templates instead:
A coloring page is someone else’s drawing that your child fills in. It looks the same as every other kid’s. A handprint craft is your child’s actual body — their unique print — becoming the art. No two are alike. And next year, the prints will be bigger. That’s why moms frame these.
There’s also a real developmental benefit that I didn’t fully appreciate until I watched my own kids do these over the years. When a 3-year-old carefully dips a finger in paint and presses it onto a specific spot, they’re practicing fine motor control, hand-eye coordination, and following instructions — all while thinking they’re just playing. Why It's Worth Starting Early
I learned this the hard way. Our first year, I waited until the week before Mother's Day. The kids were cranky, the paint dried weird because we rushed, and I ended up re-doing half of it myself at 11 PM. Not the vibe.
