11 Heartwarming Valentine’s Day Crafts to Make with Your Kids: Simple, Fun, and Full of Love
Valentine’s Day crafts have a special place in our home — not because we’re obsessed with hearts and pink paper (though, let’s be honest, there’s a lot of that), but because it’s one of those holidays where even the simplest handmade thing can mean so much. A little scribbled note, a cutout heart, a fingerprint turned into a funny character — these tiny creations somehow become the ones we keep for years. This time, we wanted to go beyond just hearts and try different ways to make something meaningful, fun, and maybe even unexpected. Some of these crafts are sweet, some are silly, and a few are just perfect for those family members who might not be into all the lovey-dovey stuff. Let’s dive in!
DIY Heart Pom-Pom Keychain: A Cute Valentine’s Day Gift Idea
Valentine’s Day is all about spreading love, and what better way to do it than with a handmade heart pom-pom keychain? My kids and I had so much fun creating these fluffy little hearts — they’re soft, colorful, and make perfect gifts for friends and family. Plus, they’re a great way to get the kids involved in making something thoughtful and personal.
Using cardboard templates, we wrapped bright pink yarn to create the perfect heart shape. My kids especially enjoyed the moment when the scissors came out and the pom-pom fluffed up — it was like magic! After trimming the edges to make it neat, we added a simple loop for hanging, and voilà — a heart keychain ready to spread joy wherever it goes.

Surprise Heart Folding Card: A Valentine’s Craft for Every Kid
We had so much fun making these surprise heart folding cards for Valentine’s Day. The templates gave us plenty of options to choose from — six different variations in total! There’s something for every child, whether they want to get creative or just enjoy a quick and simple craft.
My kids both chose the black-and-white version, because they love coloring and decorating their own designs. My older child went all out with the fully customizable template, writing a personal message and adding stickers and glitter. Meanwhile, my younger one, who’s still learning to write, picked the card with a pre-written message. All she had to do was add her name, which made the whole process simple and exciting for her.
Whether your kids want to unleash their creativity or prefer a ready-to-go colorful design, these cards are perfect for sharing love and smiles on Valentine’s Day.

Cardboard Heart with Flowers: A Simple and Heartfelt Craft
This craft might be one of the simplest we’ve ever made, but it’s also one of the most beautiful. We started by cutting out hearts from cardboard — reusing cereal boxes and even pizza box lids. It’s a great way to give new life to materials you already have at home. The process is quick and requires only a few items, yet the result is incredibly charming.
To make these, we cut small slits along the edges of the heart — about four on each side. Then we used leftover yarn from our previous crafts to create a crisscross pattern, weaving it through the slits. Finally, the most fun part: tucking in tiny bouquets of fresh or dried flowers. My kids absolutely loved choosing their own flowers for each heart. It felt like they were creating little treasures full of personality and love.
The best thing about this craft is how flexible it is. Kids can get creative with the colors of the yarn or the types of flowers they use. The flowers make the hearts look so warm and heartfelt, perfect for Valentine’s Day or just as a small gesture of appreciation for someone special.

Making these crafts is always a highlight for the kids — they get to play with paint, laugh at their handprints, and create something unique and meaningful. Valentine’s Day Heart Garland: A Chain of Love and Joy
Crafting with my kids during Valentine’s Day is always filled with laughter, creativity, and love. This heart garland has become one of our favorite projects — it’s simple, colorful, and brings a warm touch to any room. Watching tiny hands fold and connect paper hearts is a reminder of the joy in small, meaningful moments.
For this craft, we used red and pink paper strips to create a chain of interlocking hearts. Each folded heart feels like a little love note, linked together to brighten our home. My kids love seeing their work come to life as the garland grows longer with every heart they add. It’s perfect for decorating walls, windows, or even a Valentine’s party table!

Foldable Flower Valentine: A Simple and Sweet Craft
This foldable flower craft is a wonderful way to combine creativity with a heartfelt message. The process is simple and fun for kids of all ages. Start by downloading the template, which includes a black-and-white flower design. Cut out all the pieces, fold the petals to give the flower its shape, and then glue the circular center in place.
For our flowers, we used colorful paper to make the petals and center pop, but you can also cut everything directly from the template and color it in however you like. The best part of this craft is the opportunity for personalization — kids can decorate the petals with vibrant colors, draw patterns, or write little messages. Don’t forget to add the stem, which can also be colored or decorated, and write a sweet note in the flower’s center to make it extra special. It’s perfect as a small Valentine’s gift for teachers, friends, or family.

Heart Tulip Painting: A Simple and Fun Craft
This craft combines painting and a bit of recycling for a wonderfully creative result. We started with a simple cardboard toilet paper roll, folded it into the shape of a heart, and used it as a stamp.
First, dip the heart-shaped roll into diluted watercolor paint and stamp three impressions onto a sheet of white paper. The kids loved seeing how the heart shapes turned into tulips with just a little imagination. After the paint dried, we colored in the hearts with watercolors and used markers to draw stems and leaves. To finish, we added fun watercolor splashes around the tulips for a playful touch.
It’s a quick and easy craft that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day and allows kids to experiment with colors and textures. Watch the full tutorial on our YouTube channel, Mr. Mintz Crafts, to see how we brought this idea to life!
Strawberry Heart Card: A Sweet Valentine’s Day Craft
This adorable strawberry heart card is as fun to make as it is to give! To start, we drew a large heart on red cardstock and cut it out as the base. Then we added the strawberry’s “leaves” by cutting out three smaller green hearts and a stem. These were glued to the top of the red heart to create the strawberry shape.

The kids had so much fun bringing it to life, drawing eyes and a smile on the front and decorating with tiny white hearts to mimic strawberry seeds. On the back, they added a white heart to write a sweet Valentine’s message: “I love you berry much!” It’s a perfect mix of creativity and heartfelt fun.

Pop-Up Heart Card: A Creative Valentine’s Surprise
This pop-up heart card is a fun and interactive craft that’s sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face! The process begins by cutting a long strip of cardstock and marking folding points along it. After folding, we decorated the strip with pre-cut pink and red hearts to create a cascading effect.

The real magic happens when the strip is added to the card. By cutting two equal slots in a white card and threading the strip through, the hearts pop up when the card is opened. My kids loved watching their creation come to life and added their own touches by decorating the outside of the card with smaller hearts and writing a special Valentine’s message inside: “You have my whole heart!”

Heart Snowflake: A Beautiful and Simple Valentine’s Craft
This heart snowflake craft is a wonderful way to bring creativity into Valentine’s Day. Start by folding a square sheet of red paper diagonally to form a triangle, and cut off the excess paper. Fold the triangle several more times until you have a compact shape, then draw a heart-inspired pattern along the folded edges.

Using sharp, fine scissors, carefully cut out the pattern. This part was my kids’ favorite — they couldn’t wait to see the result! Once all the cuts are made, unfold the paper to reveal a beautiful snowflake filled with heart shapes. It’s an easy craft that looks stunning and can be used as a decoration or a card insert.

I Totally Dig You: A Valentine’s Craft with a Tough Touch
While our handprint crafts are usually all about sweet hearts and soft colors, this one takes a completely different direction — perfect for the uncles, grandpas, or family members who’d appreciate something a little more “heavy-duty.” Inspired by construction equipment, this handprint craft is bold, fun, and full of personality.
This design lets kids combine their handprints with a construction-themed scene, creating a piece that’s as meaningful as it is unique. My kids loved how this craft felt like a gift they could give to their grandpa, who’s always had an admiration for big machines. It’s a fun twist on traditional Valentine’s crafts and a great way to include family members who might prefer a more practical, “no-frills” approach to the holiday.
